Unsigned application — Windows SmartScreen may show a warning (More info → Run anyway).
How it works
1Activation (Ctrl + Space)
The global Ctrl + Space shortcut works everywhere in Windows, even while Echo runs in the background.
2Dictation
Dictate your text. Echo captures the microphone until recording stops, depending on the selected mode.
3On-device transcription
Transcription runs entirely on your device using faster-whisper (CPU or GPU). No audio leaves your machine.
4Automatic insertion
The transcribed text is inserted at the cursor, in the active application — email, code editor, browser, and so on.
Features
On-device transcription — faster-whisper, CPU or GPU.
Bilingual — French and English.
Dictation modes — Normal, Email, Code, Note.
Custom vocabulary and automatic replacements.
Searchable transcription history.
Starts with Windows, in the background.
Fully local — no data sent to a server.
System requirements
System — Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit).
Disk space — about 1.5 GB (application and transcription model).
Hardware — a microphone. A GPU speeds up transcription but is not required.
Installation
Download the .zip archive.
Extract the contents into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs — the Echo folder is created (no administrator rights required; avoid C:\Program Files).
Run Echo\Echo.exe.
The application installs per user, without administrator privileges. On first launch, Echo downloads the transcription model (about 800 MB) into %APPDATA%\Echo\models — an Internet connection is required only then; the application works fully offline afterwards.
